The quality of video that you watch depends on a number of technical aspects, primarily the quality of your internet connection and the processor speed of your computer. If you have a slow internet connection or a slow computer, the quality of the video you are able to watch will be reduced. For optimum viewing, we recommend DSL, cable, or an office ethernet connection. Dialup modem users will experience degraded video quality.

Symptoms of a slow internet connection or computer are: Frequent pauses for re-buffering, jerky instead of smooth video, and fuzzy or pixelating images where individual squares or blocks of color are visible.

Please try the following steps to improve your viewing experiences:

  1. While watching a video, make sure you are watching in the screen size as as it was intended. Making the viewing screen too large will reduce its sharpness. In RealPlayer at the top of the video screen, you will see the menu options "File and "View". Click on "View," select "Zoom," and make sure there is a dot besides "Original Size."
  2. In RealPlayer at the top of the video screen, you will see the menu options "File and "View". To the right of "View" is the symbol ">>". Click on that symbol, select "Tools" and then "Preferences." In the left pane, click once on "Connection." In the right panel, there is a pull-down menu to select your normal internet connection speed. Select your appropriate internet connection. The "Maximum" setting should be the same as "Normal" or the next option down (faster) on the list. If you are unsure of your connection speed, click on the "Test Connection..." button. After you make a change and click on OK, you will need to close RealPlayer and click on the link on the web page to view the video again, otherwise your settings will not take effect.
  3. Make sure to close other applications on your computer that may be robbing processing power and/or your internet connection speed.
  4. Try watching the video during non-peak times on the internet. Peak times are usually late mornings, middle-to-late afternoons, and evenings.
  5. Consider upgrading your internet connection or computer if you have exhausted these suggestions.
