Children 's Bible School at College Mennonite Church
College Mennonite Church holds children and youth in high regard and we value their place in our faith community. We join with four Mennonite churches, Assembly, Eighth Street, Faith, and La Iglesia de el Buen Pastor, to offer Bible school the first week of June.
Whether you are members or guests, your children are welcome to attend Bible school, which is open to all community children from age four through sixth grade. The Bible school curriculum has a strong Biblical base that nurtures children on their spiritual
journey toward a mature faith. Active learning engages children in the Biblical stories and connections are made to their daily lives. Art and design, music, games, literature, creative writing, and drama are some of the avenues for learning.
Nursery and preschool children learn about Jesus and learn to know Jesus as a friend. Their morning is filled with stories, singing, art projects, conversation, and play.

Bible School 2007 at CMC:
In 2007 "BE BOLD: God is with you" was the theme for children in kindergarten through grade 6. Story dramas of Jeremiah, Ruth, Mary and Joseph, Peter and Ananias told of fearful events in their lives when God gave them courage to move beyond their fear and trust in God. Children saw how these Bible characters were often asked to do fearful things, but trusted in God to be with them. Songs and prayers provided reminders that God is always with us, especially in our fear.
Children memorized Isaiah 41:10:
"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand."
These words will always be a strong reminder that God is with us and gives us courage to do difficult things.
The West African country, Burkina Faso was featured during the activity time and students learned about the need for solar powered batteries to power tape recorders so children and adults in Burkina Faso can hear stories from the Bible. Each solar powered battery costs $100. Children gave offering money to purchase five batteries.
Church and Your Child
"Christian education is the most important aspect of congregational life for helping people of all ages grow in their faith. Done well, Christian education has more potential than any other area of congregational life to promote faith."
This is the word from Eugene C. Roehlkeparptain who published Search Institute's study of more than 11,000 adults and youth in six mainline denominations.
At College Mennonite Church we are committed to help nurture our children, youth and adults to grow in faith. We want each one to love God and have a relationship with Jesus that brings joy into their lives and the lives of others. Our Nurture Commission is committed to using Anabaptist curriculum with children and youth in Sunday school and to provide meaningful activities on Wednesday nights, in choir, at retreats, and in Bible school. We have an excellent teaching staff that is dedicated and enthusiastic about sharing their faith and providing opportunities for children to develop meaningful relationships as they grow in faith. Our Christian education program seeks to support parents as they nurture children toward a mature Christian faith.
