About volunteering

Morning Song relies on the work of volunteers to carry out its mission. From playing music, to reading scripture, to giving a homily, there are numerous ways to contribute to Morning Song. Those interested in volunteering should complete a volunteer form.

Ways to volunteer

Give a homily. Each Morning Song service is centered around a seven to ten minute homily. Homilies can be reflective, scholarly or even humorous. The only requirement is that every homily be based on Scripture.

Lead worship. Worship leaders help to facilitate the flow of worship and focus participants on God. They are responsible for giving the greeting and sending, introducing the homily, taking announcements and prayer requests and leading prayer.

Read scripture. Scripture forms the foundation of worship at Morning Song. As a result, Scripture reading is an important part of every service.

Join a music team. Music teams select and lead a variety of musical styles, from traditional to contemporary. Teams are comprised of vocalists, instrumentalists, and team leaders. Each team leads music approximately once a month, depending on the number of teams.

Lead hymns. Morning Song strives to balance contemporary Christian music with the hymns that form the Mennonite tradition. Hymns can be led in a variety of styles, including a cappella or accompanied.

Play reflection music. Each Morning Song service includes a time for reflection following the homily. Instrumental music often accompanies this time.

Sing in a vocal group. Morning Song has an octet that performs hymns and other a cappella vocal music. Join this group, or offer to form another one.

Use your imagination. God works through all of the senses. From drama to dance, visual art to readings, any creative form of worship is welcome at Morning Song.

Become a planning team member. The Morning Song Planning Team coordinates volunteers and plans worship at Morning Song.
