A. Experiencing God in New Ways:
Intergenerational classes explore ways of seeing, hearing, and knowing God, in a four-week elective (June 14, 21, 28 and July 5). The same four sessions will be offered each week. All CMC guests and church family members are invited to participate:
Drumming - with Amos Burkholder - rooms 131-132 These sessions will focus on the Kodaly method of building rythms from speech patterns. The Psalms will be used as texts. We will use hand drums and other smaller percussion instruments. Participants are encouraged to bring their own instruments.
Singing Favorites Around the World with Mary Oyer - rooms 300-301 We will examine and sing a few of the songs that are very important across generations at College Mennonite Church. Then we will consider the values and challenges of learning international cross-cultural hymns, singing a few that have come to us through past Mennonite World Conferences.
Creation Walk with Lois Hartzler - meet at the church office Welcome Center Wear comfortable shoes for a short walk to Witmer Woods where we will use our five senses to observe the trees, flowers and birds that live there. We will strike a balance between imagination and knowledge, art and science, and a sense of wonder of the environment as we muse about the work of the great Designer.
Coloring Coptic Crosses with Sandra Shenk Lapp - Rooms 112-113 In this art-based guided meditation, participants will read scripture from the Psalms and then focus on specific themes as they color in the intricate designs of the Egyptian Coptic Cross. This session is based on meditation workshops offered at Anafoura, a Coptic retreat center near Cairo, Egypt.
B. Following Jesus in a World That Is Not,
facilitated by Nancy Kauffmann and Joel Kauffmann - Sanctuary This three-session elective (June 14, 21, and 28) will explore, with the help of a panel, the promise and peril of living as faithful Christians in America, in particular the conflict between giving our allegiance to Christ vs. country. As part of this emphasis by the Mennonite Church USA Task Force on National Identity, Don Yost and Joel Kauffmann were commissioned to write 12 short plays, 3 of which will be performed during the worship services at CMC (4 of these plays will be performed during worship at our national assembly in Columbus).
C. Women of the Bible:facilitated by Deb Brubaker - Newcomer Center, Room 43. This popular new Sunday school class will be an open elective this summer.
